San Pedro La Laguna, as well as Santiago and San Juan La Laguna, have a strong tradition of naïf painting. Two the lake’s earliest artists were Rafael González y González, from San Pedro, and Juan Sisay, from Santiago. Artists in the three towns are happy to show their latest work in their homes. Themes for the naïf paintings are taken from everyday life in the towns. The artists also produce some fine landscapes of Lake Atitlán and still lifes with flowers and traditional Guatemalan objects, such as musical instruments.
